Support yourself and depend on you!
Autonomy or psychological maturity is a concept that ideally needs to coincide with socio-emotional and cognitive markers, but there are times when people find autonomy hard to achieve for many reasons.
When can a person be considered as autonomous?
-Survival independence: not needing a third party to undertake part of your work and everyday responsibilities.
-Belief and decision independence: making your own decisions (about work, relationships, studying, house-matters, etc.) and be able to implement them without the need for confirmation or consent of others, while taking over all responsibility.
-Emotional independence: having the inner resilience to build your sense of self on your own, without depending on others to make you happy or tell you who you should be.
-Conflict independence: being resilient to the negative feelings of relatives or friends and colleagues -without ignore them, but being able to face them whilst not being overwhelmed. Also, not being afraid to oppose them, leave the conversation or open aa discussion with them when needed.
