Self-control starts with controlling your thoughts. If you cannot control your thinking, you cannot control your actions.
Most people feel they have to develop or maintain self-control, only in order to achieve their own goals. Self-control, however, plays an important role in our interactions, as it ensures calmness and healthy relationships with others. People with self-control seem to uphold the three following habits:
Α) Self-maintenance
They have a healthy attitude towards "material goods" and focus on what they need more than what they want. They evaluate what they need to in order to enrich their life, but do so in moderation.
Β) Self-Assertiveness
They know their value and feel comfortable to share their thoughts, while giving others the time and space to express themselves.
C) Self-fulfillment
The road to self-confidence is closely linked to durability. Those who can practice self-control, do not easily drop out of difficult activities but care to develop relevant skills.
Self-control, therefore, allows us to enjoy the positive things in life in moderation, without constantly seeking more.
