Think of someone who manages his anger admirably well. How would you describe him? Calm, with self-control, kind, assertive?
Then, ask yourself:
- what are the pros being like that?
- What are the cons of being like that?
- What are the cons of anger?
- What are the benefits of being like the person your first thought of?
Consider if the pros of anger outweigh the cons, or if the cons of anger outweigh the pros. Use a 1-100 evaluation scale (50-50. 40-60, etc.)
Remember we may not be able to control when we get angry but we can control our reaction to it. We can be angry and passive, angry and aggressive, angry and passive-aggressive or angry and assertive. The choice is ours.
