Because of the way we operate. As humans we are rational creatures and that is what distinguishes us from other animals.
However, even though we can think logically, at times, emotion overtakes us. Our emotional part of the brain (the limbic system -a group of interconnected structures located deep within the brain) is prone to mistakes and impulsive decisions.
Sometimes, it makes us fall into misjudgment and inaccuracy, acting without thinking it through -even against our own interest. Consider the times we eat a whole bucket of ice-cream; we know we shouldn’t -but we do it anyway.
